Julie Carlon

I'm Julie Carlon from Elk River, living happily with my husband John. Elk River is my happy place, buzzing with family and activity. As a blended family with John, we have six kids and four grandkids, and a big extended family that keeps things lively. During the day, I juggle writing proposals and managing content for the travel industry. But when I'm not working, you can find me camping, hiking, biking, or catching up on a good true-crime documentary. My mornings kick off at FitClub, and evenings are all about cooking, whipping up creative cocktails, and sharing bonfires with loved ones.

Dieting has been a constant companion in my life. I swear I've tried them all, with some working better than others. After John and I got married in October 2021, we fell into a comfortable but unhealthy routine. We were happy, but not exactly healthy. Recognizing the need for a change, we decided to join FitClub in December that year.

FitClub wasn't your typical gym experience. Right off the bat, they threw a curveball with a focus on balance. Let me tell you, balancing on one leg while holding a 10-pound weight was a lot harder than it sounds! Despite the initial struggle, the people there were so friendly and encouraging. Plus, learning about nutrition was a revelation - turns out, I'd been chronically under-eating for most of my life!

What sets FitClub apart for me is my coach, Miriam. She sees me as a whole person, not just a number on a scale or a fancy InBody scan. She tailors my nutrition program so I can still enjoy the things I love while making progress.

My story might not be the typical weight-loss transformation you see. While I've definitely achieved results I'm proud of, the biggest change has been in my mindset. Two quotes hit me hard this year and really shaped my perspective:

  • "It's better to be the oldest person in the gym than the youngest person in the nursing home." (Fitness Influencers)
  • "I never see an old, obese person in the morgue." (Dr. G. Medical Examiner)

These became my mantras. Now, instead of dreading exercise, I actually crave it most days. I find myself thinking, "I get to go to FitClub today!" instead of "I have to." Before Spring Meltdown 2024, I wouldn't miss a session for the sake of my team. But this last challenge was different - for the first time, I realized I was showing up for myself.

With so much love surrounding me, staying healthy is key to living a long and fulfilling life. So, if you're on the fence about joining FitClub, here's my advice: take the leap and invest in yourself. It's more than just getting healthy; it's about gaining a supportive community that will cheer you on every step of the way, reminding you that you can do this, and that you are absolutely worth it!
